We are pleased to announce that BioSusTex has joined ECOSYSTEX (European Community of Practice for a Sustainable Textile Ecosystem), a significant joint project cluster that brings together over 50 EU-funded projects focused on textile sustainability. Launched in early 2023, ECOSYSTEX represents a collaborative effort from the European Commission's Research Executive Agency (REA), the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), and the Circular-Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking, facilitated by the Textile ETP.
Through ECOSYSTEX's specialized working groups, our research team gains access to a community of over 350 registered experts across Europe. The platform's working groups align closely with BioSusTex's objectives, particularly in the areas of Environmental Assessment & PEF where it will support our sustainability assessments of bio-based solutions, and Assessment of Recycling Technologies which will enhance our work on fiber-to-fiber recycling and pre-processing methods. The working group oriented towards Eco-design for Safe & Sustainable Materials working will be particularly valuable in informing our development of PFAS-free water-repellent coatings and PVC-free print formulations, while the working group focussing on Renewable Materials & Standards will support our bio-based materials development. Through the Research & Innovation Gaps working group, we'll help identify future opportunities and challenges in the field.
As part of ECOSYSTEX, BioSusTex joins a collective voice that actively shapes textile sustainability policies and research directions. The community maintains direct connections with EU policymakers and regularly contributes to policy discussions. This was demonstrated in July 2023, when ECOSYSTEX published an input paper on research gaps and needs, showing the community's influence on future research priorities.
ECOSYSTEX provides multiple channels to amplify our project's reach and impact. Through this network, we gain access to over 2,700 LinkedIn followers and opportunities to present at the ECOSYSTEX Insights Series - bi-monthly public webinars reaching a targeted audience of textile sustainability stakeholders. We'll also participate in annual conferences, with the next event scheduled for autumn 2025 in Gothenburg, focusing on circularity and recycling. The platform enables publication sharing through ECOSYSTEX's member project library and provides regular updates through members-only and public news channels reaching over 1,000 subscribers.
Through this collaboration, BioSusTex will have numerous opportunities to enhance its impact in the sustainable textiles field. We will share our expertise and learn from parallel initiatives in sustainable textiles, while identifying potential synergies with other EU-funded projects. The collaboration enables us to access broader networks of industry stakeholders and contribute meaningfully to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable textile solutions. Through active participation in joint dissemination activities, we can amplify our reach and influence. Perhaps most importantly, this partnership allows us to help shape future research directions in textile sustainability, ensuring that our innovations and insights contribute to the broader transformation of the textile industry.
Our team is already actively engaging with ECOSYSTEX's platform and has begun participating in working group activities. In the coming months, we look forward to contributing to upcoming ECOSYSTEX Insights Series webinars and sharing our research findings through the ECOSYSTEX publication library. We are particularly excited about participating in the 2025 ECOSYSTEX Conference in Gothenburg, where we'll have the opportunity to present our work and engage with other experts in the field. Through regular engagement with working groups and contribution to policy discussions and recommendations, we aim to maximize the value of this collaboration both for our project and the wider sustainable textiles community.
