Texia, a Spanish textile finishing and treatment company, brings valuable industrial expertise to the BioSusTex project, bridging the gap between research and real-world application. The company specializes in the manufacture of high-quality cotton textile products, both in rolls and seamless formats, through its two proprietary brands: ROLL DRAP® and MY DRAP®. Known for its commitment to sustainable innovation and responsible production, Texia plays a critical role in validating and scaling up new bio-based textile technologies for industrial use.
The company’s participation in BioSusTex is led by María Álvarez, R&D Manager, who coordinates Texia’s innovation projects and ensures seamless integration with European research initiatives. She plays a key role in aligning the company’s strategic objectives with the goals of the consortium. Supporting the industrial implementation side is Eric Albets, Industrial Director, who oversees Texia’s factory operations. His role is essential in ensuring that technologies developed within BioSusTex are viable not just in the lab, but at the pilot and full production scale.
Texia’s primary expectations for the BioSusTex project are focused on developing a high-performance bio-based ink that not only enhances the value of its product offerings but also aligns with the company’s sustainability ambitions. Through BioSusTex, Texia aims to embed circular economy principles more deeply into its printing and finishing processes, while reinforcing its role as a facilitator of innovation transfer from research to market.
As a partner, Texia contributes its deep know-how in textile treatment and finishing, serving as a critical industrial testing ground for technologies emerging from the project. By piloting and validating bio-based solutions, Texia ensures that innovations meet both performance and scalability requirements necessary for market adoption.
Texia’s involvement in BioSusTex is a natural extension of its broader sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing the chemical footprint of its production processes and advancing eco-friendly textile finishing methods. The project supports the company’s ongoing transformation towards more responsible manufacturing and its commitment to contributing to a sustainable textile value chain.
While BioSusTex marks Texia’s first formal participation in a European collaborative R&D initiative of this kind, the company has already demonstrated a strong innovation track record. Notably, it developed SeamlessTex®, a proprietary technology that reduces the use of raw materials by eliminating seams, resulting in up to 30% material savings and lower energy consumption. Texia also maintains sustainable factory management practices, including water conservation and emissions reduction strategies.
What excites Texia most about participating in BioSusTex is the opportunity to co-create sustainable textile solutions with leading European universities and research institutes. The company values the cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange and is eager to share its industrial insights to accelerate the joint development of more sustainable, market-ready textile products.
